Stairway to the Moon, Not
Ocean View Caravan Park, Onslow
This morning, Chrissie took me on a lovely walk up the nearby mountain. She is exceptionally knowledgeable about wildflowers, so I learned all about various plants. I reckon that when Trevor does his 'Tank and Tip Tours' Chrissie needs to run a local Flora and Fauna tour. The grey nomads would love it!

Around mid-morning, we left Chrissie and Trevor, and headed for Onslow - which is a lovely place right on the coast. Most importantly, it is ideal for viewing the Staircase to the Moon. This can only be viewed when its a full moon rising over water, and the tide is in, so usually is just once per month at very specific locations. So far on this trip, in all the places it can be seen (eg Broome, Samson Point, Karattha, etc), we have been a week late or a week early or just completely at the wrong time.
But today is the night before a full moon- which a local told us is actually the best night for viewing - and Onslow is one of the premium places to view it. So there we were - at a lovely tavern listening to live music and looking directly at the sea waiting for the moon to rise. We heard someone say 'ten minutes to go', which we assumed was about the Staircase. We waited, and waited, and watched the sky. Nothing. Mark consulted google: "it was meant to be at 548pm", he said. "But maybe that's in the wrong time zone", he mused and kept consulting. We couldnt understand it - where was the damn moon? It was after 7pm by this point...
All of a sudden, I swivelled slightly in my seat, and there was the moon. Up in the sky. We rushed down to the beach. Sure enough the moon was there in all its glory - but it was too late - it was far too high. We had missed the staircase...
Can you believe that? We were at there at the perfect viewing spot, at the perfect time, and WE MISSED IT. Aaaaah!
Anyway below I have pasted the pictures of the moon in the sky, as well as a picture of what we should have seen....
We will just have to come back another day!

| Interesting sculptures, called Paparazzi Dogs. They are sculptures of photographers (in dog form) perfectly positioned on the foreshore to capture the Stairway to the Moon P |
