Arriving Home and Reflections ex

Last Leg of the Trip, Driving from Jurien Bay to Nedlands We have arrived home, and its still standing, but the weeds in the garden are almost as tall as us! Great to see Talia! And Melissa! Excellent chat to Suzy on return as well (although we havent seen her yet) Well, we have been travelling for nine weeks, have clocked up over ten thousand kilometers across two states, and have gone through one water pump and three tyres. We have spider-climbed through gorges; hiked through bush and desert to very low and very high places; ridden our bikes in the dark and out to fancy restaurants; and have seen amazing scenery, sunsets and wildlife from our van as well as from boats, buses, canoes, a beach buggy, our bikes, and a helicopter. We have spotted tiny birds and huge birds, fish of all colours and sizes, and an infinite variety of wildflowers. We have visited galleries, eaten in and out, and learned more about our country. And I'd like to say we, but just I, have swum in rivers, therm...

A Colourful Final Full Day

Image
Jurien Bay Tourist Park, Jurien Bay  We left the lovely camping stop, Linga Longa, at just after 10am. We definitely have the 10am departure deeply embedded into our psyche. Getting to work by 830am may be a struggle next week... Today we saw the beautiful pink lake at Port Gregory. The pink is caused by the presence of an algae that produces beta-carotene. The very high salt content of the lake, combined with lots of sunshine, creates the ideal conditions for this algae to flourish.  In front of the pink lake Interesting contrast between the pink lake and a 'normal' blue lake Next we saw lush green paddocks and Dutch blue sky - again I was having the sensation we were in the UK or maybe France, followed by yellow canola crops with pink and white wildflowers lining the road.  Green paddocks and blue skies Yellow canola crops, with wildflowers lining the road White and pink wildflowers We weren't quite sure where we were going to stay the night tonight but we continu...

When Everything Falls Into Place

Linga Longer (Lynton Station), near Port Gregory This morning we had a plan. Those who know us will appreciate that detailed plans are not our forte. But today, we sort of needed things to work out because of the ticking clock on our holiday time. And, indeed, our plan worked out very nicely! We left Red Bluff Caravan Park around ten and drove back into Kalbarri National Park. We visited the less touristy gorges - Ross Graham lookout and Hawks Head - not quite as spectacular as the ones we went to yesterday but still interesting and no buses of tourists. The day was a perfect 28 or so degrees temperature with flowers, red-orange rocks, blue sky, and quite a lot of greenery. I felt at moments like we were in England! In the light of all that beauty, Mark and I decided to get some "album cover" shots for him and some marketing photos for my glass website. Another couple was there with a toy bear and fox, which they sat on a rock and photographed. We decided this was for their ...

Surprises in Kalbarri

Image
Red Bluff Tourist Park, Kalbarri Nature's Window in Kalbarri National Park We had a few unexpected situations today, some good, some not quite so good. Surprise number 1. We had our battery charger gadget all ready in case it was needed, but the van went on first try! Perhaps the charger from the previous day boosted the battery somehow? In any event, no problems on the starting front!! Surprise number 2 . We got a lump on the other back tyre... Once again, our lucky bad-luck struck: a man came up to us when we arrived in the car park of one of the gorges, and said " I've been following you in, and you seem to have a problem with your back tyre ". Indeed, we did... this time a large bubble on the wheel on the other side. Fortunately, we had our new spare (that we picked up in Broome or Kunnunara, cant remember which), and Mark - and some very kind other blokes who turned up to help - managed to get it on.  Once again, due to the good will and helpfulness of people, w...
