Not Much Coral in Coral Bay
Bayview Caravan Park, Coral Bay
En route to Coral Bay, we went to Turquoise Bay so I could do the ‘drift snorkel’ - which involves the current pulling you along whilst you snorkel. Neither of us realised that this involved going all the way there and then backtracking - as there is no road that goes all the way south to coral bay except through Exmouth.
Anyway, despite the extra travel, we made it to Coral Bay in time for Mark’s virtual singing lesson, which was our deadline. I swam in the bay whilst Mark had his lesson. I am sad to say most of the coral seemed to be bleached (dead). Apparently there was a huge bleaching event in 2022 due to warmer-than-usual waters, and the coral has not yet recovered as it takes decades. I saw a cute sting ray but little else. I am hoping I just was not in the right spot…
But we did have some excellent ribs in the caravan park cafe! Enjoyed the vibe - lots of young people. Feel old for the first time on this trip! I am happy that the caravan park is so close to the beach, even if no coral, as am looking forward to a few days of chilling. Every day seems so precious now as this time next week we will be home.
