The Tortise and the Hare
Tumbling Waters Caravan Park, About an Hour South of Darwin
This morning after packing up, we did a walk to the Upper Cascades. Quite a gruelling walk, a couple of kms each way with lots of ups and downs. But sure enough, the usual happened... “why is it that no matter how fast we go, a fat person wearing thongs always overtakes us?” Mark asked.
Well herein lies the tortoise vs hare because - about a half an hour later - we passed the thong-wearers returning back along the track.
“What was it like?” we asked them eagerly.
“No we didn’t get there, we gave up. We could see another hill and we just couldn’t do it”.
“Oh, what a shame” we sympathised (secretly celebrating).
Anyway I think that made us even more determined. So we slogged on, to finally arrive a beautiful rock pools, which I immediately threw my clothes off and swam in.
Rock pools at the end of the walk
Colourful rocks
On our way back, just to bring our walking-egos back to earth, a young woman with BARE FEET hurtled up the rocky terrain, passing us at speed.
Black cockatoos everywhere
Birds nest that fell out of a tree
Interesting how the vines wrap around the trees
Anyway after our walk and quite short drive we have arrived at Tumbling Waters Caravan Park, about an hour from Darwin, recommended to us by Jonathan and Sue.
We passed up on the yoga and bird watching offerings (this camp has an unusually high number of activities), but have fully embraced cocktails in the bistro with free bar snacks.
