A First

Cable Beach Caravan Park, Broome

A big travel day today… around 4 hours drive to get to Broome. Mostly on the Great Northern Highway, our old friend, with my main focus over the miles being to sort out the glass for my mosaic, which was a big mixed up mess.

En route we had an issue with the air conditioner fan in the van. Then as we were almost to our destination, the GPS took us down a rough gravel road to get to the park.  It was so bumpy that the two baskets full of sorted mosaics bounced off the seat and up-ended, so literally thousands of pieces of glass were scattered all over the floor… which, on top of my grouting challenges, has made me seriously question whether mosaicing is the best hobby for a campervan trip….

Anyway we arrived  in what is a HUGE caravan park. We had some struggles with the water hose fitting, and then with getting the van onto the chocks. Nearby blokes were very helpful.

At this point of the afternoon, we were going to do our first official ‘in-a-washing-machine- wash’, but we needed 6 x $1 coins - and that was one challenge too many … So gave up on that for today. Tomorrow!

What is a first, and hence title of blog, is that we road our bikes to a fancy restaurant this evening, a place called Kitchi Kitchi. We had roast duck pancakes - yummy.

First fancy restaurant for the trip

Located in a very upscale resort, leading to the question ‘where would we rather be staying?’. For a long weekend, no doubt it would be the way to go, but as we trundled off from the restaurant on our bikes with no lights and weaved our way back to the van in the pitch black, I felt very happy to be where we are. 😃

Also a first, on our ride to the restaurant, we had to give way to camels on the path! I guess they were on their way home after giving tourist’ sunset rides on the beach.
